Appeals
You have a right to appeal your case to the Arizona Court of Appeals if you've been convicted of a crime after a trial. The purpose of an appeal is to either ask to have the trial court's verdict set aside and pronounce your innocence, or to ask for a new trial. Appellate courts grant such requests depending on the nature and degree of errors committed by the judge, prosecutor, or your defense attorney during trial.
For instance, the judge may have given an improper jury instruction, the prosecutor may have expressed impermissible personal opinions, or your defense attorney may have handled the case negligently. Your only recourse in such a case is to write an appellate brief to an appellate judge. Moreover, you must do this immediately, or you might run afoul applicable time limits. If the appellate judge thinks you have a valid claim, then he may grant a hearing where he'll ask questions and decide the matter.
This is the time in your case, where you need someone who can research cases and write a convincing argument. The criminal defense attorneys at Michael Cordova, Attorneys at Law, are not just trial attorneys, but are accomplished legal scholars as well.
