Family sues Fort Worth bar over fatal wreck involving police officer

Relatives of a Fort Worth woman killed in a December wreck involving an off-duty Fort Worth police officer filed suit Thursday against the Fort Worth bar where officer Jesus Cisneros was drinking.

 

At a news conference in Dallas on Thursday morning, lawyer Jeff Rasansky said the family of Sonia Baker decided to sue the Pour House to hold such establishments accountable for over-serving patrons and “placing profits ahead of safety.”

Family of bicyclist killed in city accident files $5 million lawsuit

The family of a bicyclist killed last year in a collision with a truck on Maryland Avenue in Baltimore has filed a $5 million wrongful-death lawsuit against the driver and his employer.

 

On Aug. 4, John R. “Jack” Yates, 67, was riding his bike south on Maryland Avenue behind a truck when he became caught in the vehicle’s rear wheels and was run over as it turned right on Lafayette Avenue, in the Charles North neighborhood, police said at the time. Yates died at the scene.

Fired O’Hare security chief sues city

The former chief of security at O’Hare International Airport alleged in a lawsuit Wednesday that his repeated pleas to improve security lapses went ignored by superiors more concerned about moving forward on costly plans to modernize the airport.

James Maurer, who was appointed to the post four years ago after rising to deputy superintendent during 41 years with the Chicago Police Department, called security at the airport “easily defeatable” and claimed O’Hare ranks as the “least secure airport in the country.”

Former student’s family files discrimination lawsuit against Bainbridge school district

The family of a former Bainbridge High School student has filed a lawsuit for damages against the school district for “condoning” discrimination against their son.

 

The plaintiffs, Bainbridge residents Jay and Jan Webster, allege that their son, who has autism, was harassed and sexually assaulted more than 75 times by four high school students between September 2006 and January 2007 and that the district ignored the family’s requests for remedial action.

 

Bainbridge Island School District Supt. Faith Chapel did not comment on the lawsuit, which was filed Feb. 12 in Kitsap County Superior Court.

Wichita School District sues four firms over work done at Hamilton Middle School

Shoddy work on Hamilton Middle School during a 2000 bond project put the school in

danger of collapsing, and “numerous lives were put at risk for a long period of time,” according to the lawsuit Wichita schools filed against four architecture and construction firms last week.

 

The district is seeking the cost of repairs to the school, which is roughly $2 million, said attorney Richard James of McDonald Tinker, Skaer, Quinn and Herrington, the firm the district hired to handle the lawsuit.
