$10.5 Million Accord Reached in Teen’s Death at Juvenile Detention Center

A $10.5 million settlement was reached in a wrongful death suit brought by the mother of a Philadelphia teenager who died in a Tennessee juvenile detention center after an incident in which two guards allegedly used an improper choke hold to restrain him.

 

Plaintiffs attorneys Thomas R. Kline, David K. Inscho and Mark Alan Hoffman of Kline & Specter filed the suit on behalf of Paulette Dolby, the administratrix of the estate of Omega “Manny” Leach.

Hurricane bar sued for negligence in 2008 shooting

WINFIELD, W.Va. — A Putnam County man who was shot in the stomach within minutes of walking into a Hurricane bar, has sued the bar for negligence, and for allegedly allowing his shooter back into the establishment after being kicked out.

 

Jerry MaCallister filed the suit against Sneekers in Putnam County Circuit Court Friday. He alleges the Putnam Village bar failed to properly train its bouncers or put in place an effective security system.

Former head of nonprofit sues

— The former executive director of a nonprofit that serves southeastern San Diego residents claims in a lawsuit that he was fired because he is gay.

Dwayne Crenshaw, who has run unsuccessfully for seats on the San Diego City Council and San Diego Community College District board, is suing the Coalition of Neighborhood Councils and several board members for wrongful termination.

Manchester Paid $200,000 In 2009 To Settle Lawsuit By Ex-Police Officer

MANCHESTER — – The town has paid $200,000 to settle a federal lawsuit that a former police officer filed against the town and two police supervisors.

The settlement paid to Scott Ventura came from a municipal insurance program, Town Attorney David M. Sheridan wrote in an e-mail Thursday. Sheridan was not town attorney at the time the payment was made in April 2009 and said he did not know why the town settled the case.

Judge lets athlete’s lawsuit against Electronic Arts and NCAA proceed

Former Arizona State University quarterback Samuel Keller can do a little end zone dance.

 

A federal judge on Tuesday denied a motion from Electronic Arts and the National Collegiate Athletic Assn. to dismiss a lawsuit by Keller. The former NCAA athlete stirred up controversy when he filed his lawsuit last May against EA and the NCAA, alleging that the two profited from the likenesses of college athletes without compensating them.
