Former valley doctor found negligent
February 8, 2010
An Arizona couple has been awarded $16.5 million in a medical malpractice case against a former Palm Springs neurosurgeon.
A Riverside Superior Court jury on Friday found Christopher Pham negligent in his treatment of Trent Hughes, now 47, in November 2003.
Hughes was injured while off-roading in Glamis, Ariz., on Nov. 2, 2003, and airlifted to
Desert Regional Medical Center, where Pham was on call.
“They were doing nothing out of the ordinary or unusual or riding in a manner or area they hadn’t ridden in dozens or hundreds of times before,” said attorney David Bricker of Ervin Cohen & Jessup, a Beverly Hills law firm that represented the plaintiff.

Lawsuit claims police brutality
Alleging they were victims of what their lawyer called an outrageous display of excessive force by a police officer, one current and three former students at Dean College have filed suit in federal court.
The four are seeking $1 million in damages, and have named two Franklin officers and the town as defendants.
The plaintiffs claim their constitutional rights were violated when Officer Douglas Nix drew his gun and aimed at them after pulling over their SUV on Feb. 28, 2009.

British veteran joins W.Va. National Guard lawsuit
CHARLESTON, W.Va. — A retired sergeant of the Royal Air Force has joined members of the West Virginia National Guard in a lawsuit alleging that they were exposed to a toxic chemical by a government contractor in Iraq in 2003, becoming the first British veteran to sue over the exposure.
In an amended complaint filed Thursday in federal court in West Virginia’s Northern District, Andrew M. Tosh, 44, of Lincolnshire, United Kingdom, maintains that officials with KBR Inc. knew about dangerous levels of sodium dichromate, a potent carcinogen, at the Qarmat Ali water-treatment plant months before they informed American and British troops guarding the facility.
