Wrigley Settles False-Ad Class Action For $6M

June 6, 2010

Gum company Wm. Wrigley Jr. Co. has agreed to pay $6 million to settle a class action that alleged the firm misled consumers by claiming its Eclipse brand gum and mints were scientifically proven to kill germs that cause bad breath.

The settlement agreement was filed Friday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida.

Class members are eligible to receive up to $10 each, and Wrigley agreed to pony up another $1 million should the claims exceed the original $6 million.
