Former mine permits chief files ‘whistleblower’ suit

FRANKFORT, Ky. — The state’s former director of mine permits has filed a “whistleblower” lawsuit, contending he was fired for complaining that his superiors broke the law by approving certain permits.
Ron Mills, a political appointee of Gov. Steve Beshear, was fired Nov. 13 in a letter from Energy and Environment Cabinet Secretary Len Peters. It offered no explanation for the firing.
