EPA’s tests of air outside schools find problems

WASHINGTON — The federal government’s first attempt to assess the dangers from air pollution around schools is nearing completion, and the findings underscore the need for more extensive air monitoring, especially in pollution hot spots, the head of the Environmental Protection Agency says.
“There is work to be done still on air quality,” EPA Administrator Lisa Jackson says. “The best result would be to find that all of our concerns were overblown, but we’re not finding this in every case.”

Spain arrests 3 allegedly linked to hacking Sony PlayStation sites
Spanish police have arrested three suspected computer hackers allegedly linked to recent cyberattacks on Sony’s PlayStation Network as part of the shadowy international “Anonymous” network of hackers.
National Police said in a statement that the three are Spaniards ages 30 to 32, The New York Times and Associated Press report.

Firm’s New Recruiting Program Will Let 3Ls Work Remotely
Nashville-based Waller Lansden Dortch & Davis is following through on plans to implement a new approach to recruiting under which it is moving away from the traditional on-campus interview model.
Schola2Juris — an apprenticeship program announced last fall that will see the firm hire only 3Ls based on actual full-time openings — officially launches on July 5. That’s when the firm will open the application process for rising 3Ls for up to 10 new jobs across the firm’s various practice areas.

3 suspected drug smugglers shot in Texas
Washington (CNN) — At least three suspected drug smugglers were shot and wounded early Thursday morning when gunfire broke out between them and a U.S. state and federal law enforcement officers along the Rio Grande near Penitas, Texas, authorities said.
Officials released only sketchy details of the incident, which began when officials spotted a suspicious vehicle on the U.S. side of the river along with two boats believed to belong to a drug cartel, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
