Asheville police officer sues city

ASHEVILLE — An Asheville police officer claims a supervisor subjected her to sexually explicit and racist text messages and that the city failed to address the problem, according to a federal lawsuit.

Officer Cherie Byrd makes the allegations against Sgt. Eric Lauffer, who won a 2008 “officer of the year” award from the city.
